![]() All three judges loved her, but I keep liking Derulo more and more for his from the heart, emotional, spontaneous, and incisive comments. I liked that she gave a controlled, calm, cool and nuanced performance which seems to express her own vibe, not trying to impress us, just confident. ![]() Add to what God gave her, a flirtatious, playful presence, and a bright personality plus, great dancing talent and training, mainly in ballet, since she was seven. Is this a deliberate emphasis for Season 12, Episode 2? Another coincidence (?), no males were selected on the stage side.Ĭhristine Shepard, 18, from Ohio, starts the show with a bang! Tall and svelte and tan and lovely, she is blessed with a stunning dancer's lithe figure. In other words, this Stage dancers batch, is not of the lyrical Contemporary inclination, like Peyton and Jojo from the first episode. Stage Dancers: Episode 2- Detroit-So where are the males? Is 18 "the" age to come audition? Every featured Stage dancer on Ep 2 turned out to be 18! Another similarity among the stage dancers selected, is that they all have street influence in their chosen style and music. It helps to appreciate their relative performance qualities better. The show alternated stage dancers with street dancers, but here I will review selected Stage dancers together, then the Street dancers, as I did last week. Nonetheless, I did enjoy Episode 2, Let's review its dancers. Editing well is essential to a show with so many auditions, so much to work with. More so because she refused to feel sorry for herself I would welcome background stories like Samantha's that are relevant, authentically emotional, and directly have to do with the dancing experience or motivation. Her feisty spirit, and struggle to better herself and her Bronx family, was very moving. I found Samantha Reyes home situation heartbreaking and real. I'm already pretty turned off by the schmaltz. The sad little human interest stories are meant to enhance the show, but I I often find them corny, sentimental or melodramatic. I also feel the contestant's back stories should be better selected and edited. Were there dancers with more potential from Detroit that we didn't get to see? If so. There were three stage dancers briefly covered, Vegas-sent, that looked promising but so briefly noted, we couldn't get to know or enjoy them fully. Great people may come out of Detroit, but we didn't get to see them all. We have to deliver a quality product to perhaps raise the ratings and get a Season 13 (wo, unlucky number?) Under the old system, I'd send Episode 2 to choreography practice to get smoother and more polished at their craft. The potential for auditioners was high, but the editing of the show was less successful., an 8/10 score. Last week I said the first SYTYCD show was like a good choreography, 9/10 score, and Vegas, show-worthy. It didn't have the same rhythm and good flow. ![]() ![]() It had the same great presenter, Cat Deeley, and the same fine judges, Derulo, Abdul and Lythgoe. It had the same stuff, auditions, auditioners and back stories of selected contestants. Episode 2 of SYTYCD was not as satisfying as the Premiere show, but it was enjoyable.
